please help make simple timed curtain puller

my idea for a simple curtain puller is to have a motor on a timer, the motor turns on and winds a cord/string that loops around the curtain, pulling it to the side. The part that I need help on is turning the motor off when the string is sufficiently coiled, so either it would be set for a certain time/number of rotations/ or amount of resistance.

 

Any ideas on how to do this?

you can run motor for fix amount of time or for fix number of rotation. in both case you will get the result

thanks for your reply, how would I set it up to run a fix ammount of time or number of rotations?  Is there a type of motor that can do that, or would i have to contol it with a computer?
