Some help required Plz….Using 555 timers in a automotive application should I use a zener diode to protect the timers ?

    Thanks

IC555 can work upto 15 V. see its datasheet for absolute maximum ratings.

Thanks for replying….Yes but I’m concerned about spikes and voltage transients above 15v which might damage the 555 timers.

    Cheers

use capacitor filters in power supply rail.

u can also use good voltage regulators as 78XX ICs

    Hi,

Like A.M.Bhutt suggest, use a 78xx regulator IC, and connect very low valued capacitors like 0.1mfd parallel with the filter capacitors in the regulator circuit to avoid voltage spikes. However there is no need at all to worry about the voltage spikes affecting a 555 IC.
