Stereo Remote Control

Hello everyone,

Quick question:

I need to implement a volume control system for a stereo. I want to use both IR remote  control and a control knob on the stereo as well.

My problem is this, how do you connect the two to ensure that they work in unison? (I plan to implement the volume control knob with a pot)

For example, what if the contol knob is turned to 0(i.e the pot is at its highest reistance), how would you cofigure the circuit so that the remote can turn up the volem regardless of the fact that the pot is set to 0?
