Sound obstruction

Can we build a sound proof area in open environment..?? I mean like a device which will absorbs the sound wave or reflects back it… Do we have anything like that so that we can creat sound proof room without closing doors…

the research for this is going on this since years. but nothing effective or efficient is found out yet. everything is at small level. like boss headphone with active sound cancellation is one of the example
