I am working on my design project idea with the 8051F340. My current idea is to use a keypad, LCD, and IR transmitter to control a television. Is this possible?

yes you can make IR remote control
u have to write a program to generate RC5 IR remote control codes

Ok great, do you have any reference information. What kind of IR transmitter would be suitable?

that is already specified. RC5 infra red remote control
