I am pulling out some old hobbies as I reach retirement age.  I have a box of legacy PIC microcontollers and I want information about current programmers.  The chips I have are in the following families:

    16C55-HS/P

    16c57/JW

    17c42-25/JW

    16C54/JW

I still have my old ultraviolet eraser but I can no longer find the programmer I once used.  Do the modern programmers work with the legacy microcontrollers?  If I pull these out it will be a hobby and not a production environment.  Is it even worth while to purchase a programmer for these microcontrollers or would I be money ahead to toss them in the trash and buy a few modern chips?  Keep in mind the hobby level – I won't be making anything earth shaking in any event.  I will probably build a few robotic devices to amuse myself.
