The project can be found here:

    http://www.engineersgarage.com/microcontroller/8051projects/celsius-fahrenheit-scale-thermometer-AT89C51-circuit

A classmate and I are trying to build this thermometer for a project, so we bought all the components and built the circuit but when we tried to feed it the 5V it needs, the source we were using went into short circuit. We double-checked to see if any cable was causing the short circuit but found nothing, so we tried adjusting the current of the source and it worked, but then it started to smell like plastic burning and found out the LM35 was extremely hot!

We thought we went a little overboard with the current, so we tried lowering it a little but the source kept going into short circuit!

We saw in the video that they have the LM35 in an entirely different Protoboard, and we were wondering if that may be the problem, because we have the circuit with the LM35 and the ADC in the same Protoboard, connecting with the 8051 and the LCD kind of like in the video.

We also changed the code of the 8051 a little to make it easier for us to build the circuit, but I don’t think it should matter.

So if anyone here has a comment, suggestion or advice on what may be the problem or what could we do to fix it, we will be very grateful! Also, we are going to keep working on it ourselves, obviously.

    Quick update:

It seems the LM35 was misplaced, we flipped it and it stopped getting hot. But still nothing is showing on the LCD! We even changed back to the original code and re-wired some stuff to make it as similar to the video as possible, but nothing yet.

    hello julio,

But still nothing is showing on the LCD!

what does this mean? you are not getting any display on LCD of not getting the output from LM35??

see nothing will com in first time, there might be some loose connection check it one more time.

    link for seven segment

    what is seven segment

Julio.. I think ur ADC should not be working properly..!! Check the input voltage to the ADC and test whether the controller is getting the proper                                input or not..!! i mean if the reqd current and voltage levels are not syfficiently met then controller will not be able to send the data out there               to LCD..!!

or otherwise check ur LCD interfacing  program whether u hv initialised the LCD to its proper configurations or not..!!

    hi guys,

there is a small change in the program…. just change the dataport initialization to P2.and in the circuit connect port p2 to LCD. YOY CANNOT USE PORT P1…AS IT IS OPEN DRAIN…..
