problem with serial communication

I made serial communication in 8051. I have connected micro controller, max 232, and gsm modem but when i am sending a msg i didnt get any msg form gsm module. Please tell me what is the reason? what are the basic code require to make serial communication??

check the baud rate there at hyper terminal setting
