i am using an LCD with a PIC16Fxxx it seems to work fine but i want to activate it and deactivate it using a button or a switch

how do i add that using assembly code ?

all LCD have backlight LED feature. you can turn it ON or OFF to activate or deactivate it

You can wire the VDD or VCC pin of the LCD with a transistor and then use one of your microcontrollers digital pin to power on/off the LCD.
