interfacing avr with matlab

i want to interface avr with matlab.like sending string from matlab to avr and processing from avr according to string recieved from avr.i am having difficuties in uart part rather than in others.. the project with this problem is

Did you check th clock frequencies because i have implemented this and i faced the same problem initially but it worked fine later shouldnt be a big problem i guess
