Hi,

Refer these articles for the basic idea about the GSM interface. In these you can see SIM300 is used, but you can get basic idea about AT commands and Sim900 interface.

GSM modules have serial interface. they can be connected to serial Tx-Rx pin with micro controller

pls visit our tutorials for GSM interfacing
