I would like to know how to interface an encoder with ATMEGA 8 micro controller. I need the code to detect the speed and generate an interrupt signal for a particular speed. The main purpose is to switch according to that particular speed.
    Do help!

Actually we are planning to make a model of an hybrid vehicle, the one that combines electric motor and combustion engine. For switching between this motor and engine speed of the tyre has to be sensed. When speed exceed a certain preset value, system switches from motor to engine. Similar is the case when there is an inclination.
So,here is the case, each time when the sensor detects a preset value,an interupt signal has to be generated which leads to switching. Planning to use an encoder for speed, and mercury switch for inclination sensing.
Please ,do help for using ATMEGA 8
