how can i count drops in infusion pomp?

hi. i am final year student of electronic Enginerring ..my final year project is infusion pump…m little bit confuse about counting drops and calculate  total volume of the serum.i mean sensors that doing these actions

You can use IR or optical Interrupter Sensor for counting drops of water.
