When we stop the power supply to a motor it rotates for some time due to inertia of motion…when we connect both the terminals of the motor to the positive terminal of the battery it stops with no effect of inertia …can someone tell me why??
you are absolutely correct that when supply stops motor still rotates because of inertia. And when subjeccted to +ve terminals it stops with no inertia effect. This is because of electrical locking/ self locking of the motor. When +ve potential is applied across the motor then magnetic field produced by the stator of the dc motor will not let the rotator to rotate.
k…but even in the absence of positive charge on the two terminals the stator magnetic filed should exist which shouldnt allow the inertia factor
and how does the magnetic field stop the rotatory motion??
