    hi,

         this was my friend’s question.

It is related to video or image.

a codec is a device or a computer program that is capable of encoding or decoding  a digial data stream signal. It is a compression algorithm used the reduce the size of a stream. Means a mathematical way of reducing the size.

That means while compression some data will be lost.

The actual question is, while compression which part of data is lost and which part is retained.

any one is there who knows about this…………………………

    Hi Shashank,

There are lossless compression techniques and lossy compression techniques.

As far as your query is conserned the data corresponding to the unchanged part will be lost. Suppose the vedio is like your friend dancing infront of a wall. Since for all the frames the data corresponding to the wall remains the same that much data will be removed from the successive frames excluding the initial frames of the vedio.

This is the very simplest explenation. Hope you get the concept.
