communication TV remote with Laptop

Hello ppl
Plz help me out in one thing…i want to communication betweem my laptop and 8051 controller…
one way of interfacing is thought of is using USB port…
but m nt having ne idea how to proceed with it..
In case anyone has any idea abt this or any other solution please tell me…

there are higher range of controller in 8051 too which hav inbuilt USB protocols just as serial…. but they are not so easily available and controlling USB only is a big deal so try with serial first….

Interfacing through using USB port is correct way… but u need to create driver software in ur laptop using Visual basic or vb.net.

After creating vb platform, u can easily control ur laptop using tv remote control…..
