common ac neutral and dc ground

I have confused in a  electronic circuit where neutral wire of AC supply is used as a ground for dc circuit. The neutral wire is connected to ground pin of 7805 ic.Can we used neutral supply of  AC  as DC ground in the entire electronic circuit ?

how a neutral can be ground?

you can not connect AC neutral to directly 7805. first AC must be ractified. i suggest you go thouugh basic power supply circuits

I think the circuit will work, because the ground is nothing but a reference voltage for the circuit. It need not be exactly zero always. It is the difference between input voltage to the circuit and the reference voltage that matters.

Due to safety reasons I strongly suggest not to go for that circuit.
