    Good day!

First of all sorry for my bad english.. :(

can a water sensor detect rain as well?. i mean, small amouts of raindrops can trigger water sensor?. if so, what mechanism/technique can we apply to fasten up the detection of water sensor/?

because rain sensors aren’t available in our country or its hard to find one.

    pls help..

    thankss :) more power!

    Hi Adrian,

I guess a water sensor can do. To increase the sensitivity of the water sensor it depends on what kind of sensing method are you using in it. Please post the details of the water sensor which you are using.

I wonder what is the purpose of sensing the rain !! Or are you planning to ‘measure’ the rain fall ?

I remember making something very similar to this a very long time ago! (OK I’m old laugh )

The simplest rain drop sensor is a small strip of ‘Veroboard’, or even two strips of un-insulated wire wrapped on a piece of wood works just as well for experimentation purposes. The conductors become a resistor when a droplet of water bridges the gap between them. It’s the effect you get when you drop a cellphone in a puddle, things short out.

So to make a sensor work, all you need is that basic device and some means to detect it,.. a simple op-amp would do that.

    Hi,

    Simple way to detect rain…

Design a circuit to bias transisitor as a switch. Once its done, cut the wire giving signal to base of transistir and keep two open ends very close to each other and put at the desired location (Please mount sensor properly). When there will be rain, it will come in contact with the broken wire and will provide a conductive path as rain water is a conductive material of water.

In this way you can easily sense the rain.

IC555 can also be used in monostable configuration for this purpose.

    its very sensitive.

just tie IC555 trigger input to 5 V supply through 1K resistor.

then make close gap between trigger input pin and grond connection. you can make cross hatch pattern (like found in calculator keypads)

        _____

        |   ______

        |_____    |

        |    _____|

        |            |

    to gnd     to trig input

when rain drop falls on such pattern IC555 gets trigger and its output becomes high

Ya, this one is also a good option.
