[ASK] serial communication + HTML project

i need to build a project which involves ATMega, serial communication, and local web page (HTML based) for monitoring and input. First two things is familiar enough with me, but not for the last one. So, can anyone kindly give me advice or examples to create a webpage (local) which act as an interface with ATMega. i've try making a serial interface application based on java or c#, but my lecturer not accept it.
