    Hey

i am doing a project on using IR sensors to detect volume of vehicles, and to change time of traffic signals based on that. I intend to use 4 IR sensor pairs on each lane to detect the volume of the traffic. for example if only first ir sensor beam is broken then time given for signal is 25s. if second pair beam is broken then 50s and so on. i am not trying to count number of vehicles. just need to know the level of traffic. please see attached image to understand the positioning. also i have added an IR sensor pair at the other side to detect red light signal jump violation.

i need help with the circuit diagram, the interfacing in detail and the programming in C for this project. can anyone help?

The problem is I dont know where to start. And there isn’t anyone who can help me either. so if I can get an idea or a circuit or something to start of with it would be really helpful.

havent started! the problem is like I said, I dont know where to start. i found an IR tx n Rx circuit but i dont know how to interface it with the 8051. especially considering I need to interface 5 tx-rx for one lane of the road. also I dont know how to code for this interfacing!
