its all very easy with IR to interface. As per ur topic u need 2 IR receiver and 2 IR Led. u must keep the IR led on one side with some spacing. then, place the IR receiver on the other side straight to the 2 IR led. keep the IR led always by providing 2.5V Dc. then interface ur IR receiver with the microcontroller. note: dont interface directly with the controller. u must need a op-amp to make a signal strong. give the IR receiver to the op-amp non inverting input and get the op-amp output to the micro controller. the program ur controller as per working instruction. name the IR receiver A and B. if the A cuts and the B signal cuts hence the person is getting IN. while B cuts and A signal cuts hence, the person is getting out.
